Google Ads Displays 4 Ads At Top And Removes Sidebar

Google Ads has made a huge change to the way that they display their advertisements. Really huge.

Recently Google has been testing the display of four advertisements in the Google Ads search results.

Well, over the last few days this seems to have been rolled out, but with a huge twist that I wasn’t expecting but which confirms more than ever what I have been saying for a long time – Search Engine Optimisation or Search Engine Marketing is dead and buried.

Whilst there are now Google Ads advertisements in the top four positions of Google’s search results, at the same time they have completely removed the Google Ads advertisements down the right hand side of the search results, as shown in the image below.

What does this mean for you?

Basically, unless you are targeting positions 1 – 4 with your keywords, your advertisements will not be displayed at all.

I have been saying for some time that you need to target the top three search positions to make use of Google Extensions, but now this is more important than ever.

If you are still paying a Search Engine Marketing Company hundreds or thousands of pounds each month, as I know many do, be very careful to measure that your organice (free) traffic is rising month on month.

My advice would be to instantly switch your budget to Google Ads.

You will be able to measure your returns much more accurately and also be able to generate more visitors instantly as opposed to waiting on the promise of being at the top of Google (which remember now means position 5 at best) some months or years in the future. By the time you do get there, if you ever do, you may find that Ads advertisements now occupy the top 10 positions of Google search results.
